We enter a float in the annual Picton Santa Claus Parade;and take it
to the Bloomfield parade as well --about 5 miles (9 kilometers) away.
We serve tables at, and help pay for, the annual Salvation Army dinner
and Christmas party for needy children. Our Santa Claus makes an
appearance for distribution of gifts donated by the community.
We support financially the local Air Cadet squadron, and several local
young people's sports teams --from softball to soccer.
We have supported the Alzheimer's Institute, the Canadian National Institute
for the Blind, the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
We contribute every year to the "Sleeping Children Around the World"
program, which provides bed kits to children in 3rd world countries.
We participate in an annual community "Trash Bash," and are the first
local group to officially "adopt" a road for trash cleanup.
We have a close relationship with our local high school: we give annual awards to graduating students in music and communications.
We have an active Terrific Kids program.,
We support the annual regional Science and Technology Fair for
elementary and secondary students.
We participate in the community's Meals on Wheels program.
Lately, we provided "seed" money for a newly-formed palliative care
society in the community, for the design and production of a coverlet
which netted the society several tens of thousands of dollars. This society has now joined with a bereavement counselling group to form
a local Hospice organization.
We raise money for these service projects in a variety of ways:
our annual yard sale and bake sale/pancake breakfast; the annual fish
tournament, in conjunction with the Trenton Kiwanis Club; staffing gates for the annual Women's Institute Craft Show, and the Taste the County event; and our annual kiwanis cribbage colour bicycle event.
We also have a lot of fun! Fun working together, fun at Spouses'
evenings and special events, fun and fellowship at meetings.
